Do you still have a few more questions? Here are some of the questions that I’ve been asked about the program. Maybe your question is here.
Why is this website only open to Nebraska writers?
Since the stated mission of this website is to connect Nebraska independent writers with Nebraska readers, this is the group of writers I am focusing on first. If I get a great demand to expand it for writers from other states, I may consider doing so in the future. But for now, my plan is to limit the site to Nebraska writers.
But I am leaving it up to you to decide how that title applies to you. If you were born in Nebraska but currently live elsewhere, for example, that would still qualify you as a Nebraska writer. Just be sure to let the reader know, in your author interview, why you are a Nebraska writer.
Why do I need to have my book(s) available for purchase from somewhere other than Amazon and available in print form?
Not everyone buys their books from Amazon. And since we are encouraging our readers to recommend our books to local librarians and booksellers, we want to be sure that those folks can easily stock their shelves with our books, if they wish to do so. I have found the best avenue for this is IngramSpark’s expanded distribution program. If your marketing plan does not include Nebraska bookstores or Nebraska libraries, our site might not be the best fit for you.
Do I have to be a BookFunnel client in order to participate in GO BIG READ? Are you an affiliate of theirs?
At this point, I am not an affiliate (although I might choose to do that in the future.) But I am asking that each author provide a minimum of 100 free review copies of each of his or her books to our readers, and the easiest way for us to seamlessly distribute those review copies ( as either pdf, mobi, or epub files) is with the help of BookFunnel.com.
The cost for this is very reasonable, with a base plan of $20 per year (last time I checked) although I would recommend joining as a mid-list author, so that the files you send out will be watermarked.
I’m confused. I’m sure that I read somewhere that it wouldn’t cost me anything to participate on this site.
It doesn’t cost our readers anything to participate on the site or to request books to read and recommend. But there is a cost to writers to participate, to help cover the cost of developing and maintaining the website. I apologize for the confusion.
Can I get my money back if no reader chooses to request my book or recommend my book to others?
I’m sorry, but there are no guarantees that participation in our site will result in either recommendations and / or sales. But I am asking our readers to either recommend a book OR to share their reasons for not recommending it. I personally think that writers who participate in our program will find it very beneficial to not only hear the positive things folks are saying about their books, but also some things that did not work for them, as readers.
But if you have participated in our site for a year or more and no one has requested your book or chosen to recommend your book to others, I would strongly urge you not to continue your membership with us. Our site and our readers are obviously not a good fit for you and your book(s).
Once I pay and complete my author / book packet, how soon will my book be listed on the site?
My goal is to get everyone on the site as quickly as possible, but since I am only a “one-woman” organization and I am also a writer, that might not be as quickly as you or I hope. Once I receive your initial payment and your completed author packet, I am asking that you give me at least 30 days to get all of your information set-up and live on the site.
I have a question that wasn’t answered here.
